The unexpected passing of Hans Bisgaard

It is with sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Hans Bisgaard, professor at the University of Copenhagen and since 2019 a highly esteemed member of the Translational Committee of the Longfonds Asthma Prevention Consortium. Hans’ mission in research was to understand the origins of asthma, eczema and allergy and to translate this into clinical practice to improve disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment. He was among the first to highlight the importance of exposure to bacteria early in life for the prevention of childhood asthma. His contribution to research, especially regarding the role of the human microbiome in the origins of asthma, is of great importance.
We will miss Hans as a pioneer in asthma research and above all as a truly inspiring colleague.
