The international research program LONGFONDS | Accelerate was launched in 2018 to accelerate scientific discovery and innovation. To ensure that relevant innovations become products and reach lung patients and clinics within the foreseeable future, in 2019 Lung Foundation Netherlands (Longfonds) took the next step by initiating a venture fund and venture builder called LungHealth.

By establishing LungHealth Investment Fund, Longfonds boosts the process of accelerating the availability of medical products in the respiratory field. LungHealth has the infrastructure to develop promising scientific findings into commercially available products that prevent or cure lung diseases. Products that are desperately needed. In the Netherlands alone, there are 1.2 million people with an incurable lung disease. This this number is continuing to grow.
