Launch Asthma Prevention Consortium

We are excited to announce that starting today, the international Asthma Prevention Consortium is fully functional.

In 2014 the Lung Foundation Netherlands organised an international assembly of scientists, experts in immunology and lung research, to discuss the possibility of making asthma prevention a priority, with the aim to accelerate a medical breakthrough for asthma. It soon became clear that this challenge had to be tackled by joining forces internationally. This became our next aim, supported by top scientists in the field.

Together, we are excited to announce that starting today, the international Asthma Prevention Consortium, ‘A World without Asthma’, led by dr. Hermelijn Smits (Leiden University Medical Centre) is fully functional. Highly respected researchers from leading institutes in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Australia will collaborate intensively in this Consortium. By sharing knowledge and making use of each other’s strengths and capabilities in five innovative, and sometimes pioneering, research work packages, scientists believe that they will succeed in generating solutions for preventing asthma in young children within 7 years. Lung Foundation Netherlands manages and facilitates the consortium in its role as programme manager and co-financer. Click here for a list of the Consortium Partners.
