Erasmus Medal for Hans Clevers

For his long list of important contributions to the scientific community, prof. dr. Hans Clevers received the Erasmus Medal, the highest award of the Academia Europaea.

Sierd Cloetingh, President of the Academia, presented the medal and Prof. Jos van der Meer, professor of internal medicine at the Radboud UMC held the laudatio for Clevers. The lecture by Clevers that followed gave an overview of his career. From the first steps in stem cell research to the current developments in the field of customized treatment.

The Academia Europaea was established in 1988 and gathered about 2000 members, among whom 40 Nobelprize laureates. With the award of the medal, Clevers is invited to become member.  The aim of the Academy is to promote European research, advise governments and international organisations in scientific matters, and further interdisciplinary and international research.
